What is Bullfrog’s mission as an organization? How did this organization come to be?
Bullfrog Power was founded in 2005 with a visionary goal: to transform Canada’s electricity landscape. We believe that everyone should be able to access green energy, so we became the first company to offer a green electricity choice for businesses and homes.
What is unique about Bullfrog Power?
Bullfrog Power offers green energy from high-quality sources, and takes a flexible approach to finding renewable energy solutions that work for any business or individual. We also offer transparent, reliable reporting and undergo an annual audit, so customers can trust that their green energy purchases have been reliably counted and credited. As a workplace, Bullfrog is full of really passionate, committed people. Former employees often visit our office or come to holiday parties, which says a lot about our commitment!
How has your personal experience influenced the direction of the organization’s vision and mission?
People come to Bullfrog Power because they want to help build a renewably powered future. As the graphic designer, my job is to help them imagine what that future will look like. Technologies like wind turbines, solar panels, and biogas digesters can seem intimidating, but with the right design choices, we can help people to see the beauty in them, and to get excited about their role in building a healthy, sustainable world.
What is your creative process?
My typical design process is very collaborative. As a designer at Bullfrog Power, my role is to help bring our vision of the future to life. This can mean hearing a lot of different ideas, and trying out a lot of different approaches until we land on something that really feels right. I’m lucky to work with a team who are willing to try new things and take creative risks, and I think that really pays off in the quality of the work we produce.
How has the organization changed over the past 2 years?
We’ve seen increased awareness of climate change. More than ever, people want to take immediate, proactive steps to address the climate crisis.
Do you have any tips or practices to share with people who are making the lifestyle shift towards zero-waste and sustainable practices?
Our customers are very environmentally conscious, and are always looking for ways to waste less energy. We put together these Conservation Tips to help our community keep their homes as green as can be.
Tell us a bit about the custom artwork created for this furoshiki wrap
Traditional technologies like windmills and waterwheels have been popular design motifs for centuries. I wanted to create a modernized version using today’s renewable energy sources, to show how charming and appealing they can be. This design features cute illustrations of wind turbines, solar panels, and biogas digesters, along with our iconic bullfrog mark.
How did you come to work with Wrappr and what is the highlight of collaborating with Wrappr for you?
The Bullfrog Power team is always trying to find ways to practice sustainability in our own lives. Last year we did a furoshiki wrapping workshop and had a fantastic time! We were all really inspired by this simple, beautiful way to present gifts, and now we’re very excited to share it with our customers.
What is your favourite way to style a furoshiki wrap?
This past summer I used a furoshiki to wrap and carry a watermelon to a party. It looked so pretty that now I give melons as gifts all the time!
