Rocky Mountain Soap Co. - Wrappr

Rocky Mountain Soap Co.

What is Rocky Mountain Soap Co.'s mission as a company? How did Rocky Mountain start making soap?

We are unwavering in our commitment to using 100% natural and toxin-free ingredients so you can shop with freedom knowing everything we make is safe and good for you.

21 years ago we started making soap by hand, and we still do that today (along with a whole range of other body and personal care products). Each of our products are made surrounded by nature at our home base in the Canadian Rockies.

What is your inspiration or how has personal experience influenced the direction of Rocky Mountain Soap?

"Mashed avocado on my face. Egg in my hair. Since I was a little girl, I inherently believed that if it came from nature it was the best you could get. I still believe that." Co-owner and CEO, Karina Birch

Karina and the rest of the team at Rocky have been formulating with natural ingredients for over two decades – in an effort to remove toxins from the world, we are always looking to our own personal care routines to identify new opportunities.

Items like our Vanilla Coconut Sunscreen and Roll With It Deodorant were developed because we wanted to stop using toxic sunscreens and deodorants available on the market.

What is your creative process for your soap and other products? Is there something unique to Rocky Mountain that you couldn’t imagine creating without?

There are so many creative people on the Rocky team and no shortage of creative ideas. At the core, we draw our inspiration from nature – the colours, smells, textures etc. that you might experience while spending time outdoors. Once we have an idea, our amazing team of chemists and herbalists will bring that to life with all natural ingredients. Without this in house technical expertise, many of our most creative endeavours wouldn’t be possible.

How has your business changed over the past 2 years?

As the pandemic evolved, we were focused on listening to our Rocky community. For awhile, soap and hand sanitizer were the focus, but we’re starting to see consumers looking for a broader range of products again. Whether it’s a bubble bath after a long day, or your nightly skincare routine, we’re so happy that Rocky can offer those moments of joy to our consumers.

We’ve learnt so much about our community over the past two years, and we are channeling it all into some innovative new product developments. Stay tuned for some exciting product launches in the future!

Do you have any tips or practices to share with people who are making the lifestyle shift towards zero-waste and sustainable practices?

Look towards your daily routine for small changes that can have a big impact.

Our brand was built around our favourite zero-waste product – bar soap! We all use soap at multiple points throughout the day, and by switching to a bar format you can prevent excess packaging from ending up in the landfill. If you’re not a bar soap person, try looking for products that offer refill options!

Tell us a bit about the artwork used on your Wrappr!

We fell in love with the artwork because of the story behind it. We imagined the lines as paths through the forest – full of twists and turns with new things to discover along the way. The artwork reminds us to slow down and enjoy the journey because sometimes it is just as important as the destination!

How did you come to work with Wrappr and what is the highlight of collaborating with Wrappr for you?

Some of us had seen Wrappr on Instagram and knew it would be a perfect fit! We love the fact that Wrappr is Canadian, with a focus on sustainability and design. A highlight of our collaboration was receiving our first samples and wrapping them around our new gift sets - seeing it all come together for the first time was really special.

What is your favourite way to use a Wrappr?
